Pattern for SBI Specialist Assistant Manager (System).

The pattern for SBI Specialist Assistant Manager (System) is as follows:

Paper I: Qualifying in nature

S. No.SectionsMaximum MarksTime
1Test of Reasoning50
2English Language35 90 mins
3Quantitative Aptitude35
Total120

Paper II: Merit paper

S. No.SectionsMaximum MarksTime
1Professional Knowledge100 (50 questions, 2marks each) 45 mins
Total100

As you can notice the pattern of SBI SO is quite different from any other banking exam. Following points require special attention:Preparation Tips for SBI SO Systems Officer

  1. Except for Professional Knowledge section, the other 3 sections will be only qualifying in nature and their marks will not be utilized for arriving at the Merit List. What this means is you are only required to clear the sectional cutoff of Reasoning, English and Quantitative Aptitude (Part I). So YOU SHOULD FOCUS ONLY ON SCORING MAXIMUM MARKS IN PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE (Part II )section.
  2. There are different time duration for Professional and other sections. This means you cannot jump between other and professional section according to your will.  You will have to finish the Part I and only after 90 minutes are complete you will be able to attempt Part II.(Professional Knowledge)
  3. Keep your cool in the first 90 minutes. Solve 15-20 questions every section of Part I  and aim for 90-100% accuracy. Remember not to attempt too many questions and try to prove yourself a ‘know it all’. It will only make you lethargic. So keep your mind fresh for the Professional section.
  4. Start the Professional section with full vigor. Since there are only low/no calculations involved go for reading the entire set of questions and answering the ones about which you are 100% certain of.
  5. After you are done answering the above kind of questions, check your attempts. If you have managed to attempt 50-60% questions, take a sigh of relief and go for solving another 20% questions. Aim for 70-80% accuracy.
  6. Voila !! you have cleared SBI SO Systems (SBI SO IT) paper 2016. 🙂
  7. For all those who cannot help but prepare for Part I, read on.
  8. You do not need to master these sections.
  9. Solve previous year PO papers to get an idea about the kind of questions asked in English, Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude.
  10. No matter whether you are the most fluent English Speaker, or the best reasoning thinker or THE Quant Master, DO NOT WASTE TIME SOLVING ALL QUESTIONS IN ANY OF THE 3 SECTIONS. Attempt only 15-20 questions per section with 90-100% accuracy.
  11. Focus on the topics given below for solving and attempting.
  12. Reasoning
    1. Sitting arrangement
    2. blood relation
    3. coding-decoding
    4. syllogisms
  13. Quantitative Aptitude
    1. Arithmetic Questions – BODMAS, Simple and Compound Interest , Profit/Loss, Percentage , Averages,  Ratio Proportion
    2. Time and Work, Time and Speed
    3. Geometry- Area/Perimeter of Square, Rectangle, Circle
    4. Data Interpretation
  14. English Language

    • Yes they are eligible, and there won’t be any second exam. Only one exam divided into two different time slots for Professional Knowledge and Other Sections.
After clearing out this written exam, successful candidates will be called up for Interviews and a combined cut-off is considered for final recruitment.

  18. Hi ,

    I have a small clarification,

I have given my SBI IT officer exam on January 2016. I have done my best. It is mentioned clearly in the SBI SO notification that one should score above the cut-off in PK besides scoring equal to or above the minimum qualifying marks in aptitude test.

Can you please tell me the difference between scoring minimum qualifying marks in aptitude test and scoring cut-off in professional knowledge. In some websites I found the previous years minimum qualifying marks lies somewhere between 5-8 in aptitude and between 30 and 40 in professional knowledge.

    Thanks

    • The 3 sections will be only qualifying in nature and their marks will not be utilized for arriving at the Merit List. What this means is you are only required to clear the sectional cutoff of Reasoning, English and Quantitative Aptitude (Part I). So lets assume you got 15, 15 and 16 marks in the three sections. You cleared the cutoff. Now your score in PK will be seen and based on that merit will be prepared.

      • Hi ,

        Thanks for the information.
As far as I know the quants section was found to be difficult. What could be the expected minimum qualifying marks for quants section?.

      • hey, but as an aspirant how will you be able to know – what is the expected cutoff ( just to qualify) ? or is it that based on the average scores of all student – they will decide the qualifying cutoff ?

Also What is the pattern of Professional Knowledge is it MCQ or theoritcal answers ?

    • theres no mention of negative marking in the official notification. But as per previous year pattern, there might be negative marking of 0.25 marks in 1st paper and 0.5 in second paper (1/4th of marks allotted to the question)

  27. Sir the main question is how to crack phase first as your syllabus and mrunal syllabus just total different. As mrunal contains BODMAS, % profit loss, SI-CI. time-speed-work. (can be easily solved by following the techniques under Mrunal.org/aptitude) within geometry- only area, perimeter of square, rectangle, circle. (At most volume of sphere, cube, cone, cylinder and cuboid. within data interpretation (DI), go for the “Table/piechart” type MCQs- mainly those requiring multiplication, addition or subtraction. And yu added more topics like in maths then where should we go?

  28. sir, i have done b.tech in INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL ENGINEERING. and studied 6 subjects of computer science branch. C, C++,OOPS, DATA STRUCTURES, COMPUTER NETWORKS, OPERATING SYSTEM,SOFT COMPUTING.

    • There is no mention of negative marking in official notification. But you should prepare taking negative marking into account Sukriti. Since questions in professional knowledge section carry 2 marks each, the negative marks awarded for incorrect answer will be 0.5.
Prepare according to the above information. But in the original paper read the INSTRUCTIONS carefully, for mention of negative marking.
