The whole ‘No Interviews for IBPS Clerk V’ saga is over now.

IBPS has released an official notification today, saying that there will be NO INTERVIEWS for selection of candidates for Clerical positions via IBPS Clerk examination. Following are the excerpts from the official notification.

It has now been decided at the appropriate level to discontinue interviews in the recruitment process for Clerical Cadre. Accordingly NO Interviews will be conducted under CWE Clerks-V.100% weightage will be given to the score obtained by the candidate in the online Main Examination of CWE-Clerks-V, instead of weightage ratio of 80: 20 for CWE Main examination and interview respectively.

25th October 2015

In his monthly radio address ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announces that from January 1, 2016 there would be no interviews for central government jobs in Class-III and IV categories. Terms it a “New Year Gift” to the youth and a major step towards curbing corruption.

5th, 6th December 2015

IBPS conducts the Clerk V Prelims examination with the old selection procedure (Prelims, Mains followed by Interview) paying no heed to PM Modi’s directives.

17th December 2015

IBPS Clerk V Prelims Results are announced. Still no response from IBPS regarding PM Modi’s call for No Interviews.

The Finance Ministry, following the PM Modi’s directives gives a new year bonanza to IBPS Clerk hopefuls by asking Public Sector Banks (PSBs) to strengthen their written examination for recruitment of clerical and sub-staff posts as there will be no interviews for such appointments. 

“PSBs (public sector banks) may explore other alternatives to strengthen written examination such as by including psychometric tests, etc. to replace interview mechanism,” the Department of Financial Services said in a communication to chief executives of all the 27 state-owned banks.

Students rejoice and prepare full on for IBPS Clerk V Mains examination.

2nd and 3rd January 2016

Again, paying no attention to the Finance Ministry’s call, IBPS conducts Clerk Mains examination with the old pattern.  Everyone starts to get confused. Aspirants worry about expected cutoffs and wait for IBPS Clerk Mains results.

22nd January 2016

IBPS releases a notification on the official website saying ”Candidates appeared in the Main Examination are hereby requested to follow IBPS website for further information in this regard. ”

India Today publishes an article which says “the Cabinet secretary (along with group of secretaries) made recommendation to PSB banks to discontinue the interviews for the recruitment of clerk posts. ”

Recently, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) had said that skill test or physical test may continue as it is different from interview. “However, these tests will only be of qualifying nature. Assessment will not be done on the basis of marks for such tests,” it had said.

This announcement might serve as a shot in the arm for the pending IBPS Clerk V result. Hope it gets out soon.

  1. IBPS clerk result to be declared immediately and they should send call letters for document verification/ language test /psychometric test (if any). It is really frustrating to wait and wait. At this point of time it is difficult to prepare for other exams also.

  2. wht is this happening, why IBPS IS NOt declaring the result.. if there is any problem regarding interview fact then, IBPS SHOULD DECLARE THE MARKS or result date atleast so that we get some relaxation. IBPS IS PLAying with the future of the candidates.. it is not well,,

  3. I welcome govt decision of ‘ no interview for group c & d posts’, as I myself has seen & noted my friends who are better than others & me also, are not getting job just because they lack in interview & personality development skills.
    But my point is that, as the IBPS clk 5 exam was conducted as per previous pattern that is of conducting interview I & many of us has given our exam keeping cut off related to that scenario in out mind. For ex, I lack in GA section & I have attempted only 22 in that keeping in mind that cut off GA section will be around 15 & with 22 I may clear that, so not to take risk & attempt more insured one’s. But if interview will not happen GA section cut off will go over 20, rendering such like me nowhere.
    My point is either IBPS must have heard the govt directives on time & restructured their exam, if not so follow the pattern as was declared in notification. It was IBPS’s responsibility to take decision on time ie before exam was conducted not in mid of & creating confusion.
    Suggestion: Give mains cut off as declared in notification & was conducted. “Then, arrange a psychometric test against interview in English & Hindi both”. As candidates often lack in speaking & representing their selves in interview but can do well in psychometric as suggested by govt.

  4. If no interviews and psychometric test will be conducted then what will be it’s procedure and pattern of questions etc etc details should be posted . Plz provide for that as soon as possible

  5. How can one decide the personality of somebody within 10 minutes. It is more than impossible. Can’t we do drama in 10 minutes. Decisions in interviews are always loosely judged. If a person is weak in communication, it is easy to learn, but if he/she is weak in commitment it is difficult to go through. And this personality parameter can’t be judged within 10 minutes. Added to this, if the panel is also weak in commitment, it leads to corruption. An unfaithful clerk can be charged for crime. But, how can one question the fidelity of the panel member in the interview towards his/her job as interview itself is a covert process. At last, Government took a prudent decision at least for the Lower grade posts.

If u tell about communication skills it’s already there in the test which we are attending, if one can secure good marks in English he is going do well with customers too, do u think speaking better during interviews will be same when they work ? If so ur wrong, many people after getting job they aren’t working well, some speak well only to get job not to work dedicated.

I guess govt should abolish the so called “favourism/corruption” in interviews n steps cud be taken to prevent it instead of removing interviews.the talented n subject oriented candidates may not have chance to go further.without interviews who can know the ethics of a particular organisation n respond to borrowers??

If you are attemped question 150 in 120minits , aur apke pas interview me pass hone jitni capability b h, but kya pta apka interview lene wala apko like ni kre nd you will b reject… Kaisa lgega apko. Socho.. 2 person me 1 ko select krna h then .. So i think its good dicisin of pm modi.

  9. overall interview na hi ho to achcha hai ,becouse we all know a clerk level work ,any simple graduate can deal.
    corruption cum hi hoga agar interview na ho to , koi poor student jo odd condition me prepare karke exam pass karleta uska , uska interview agar achcha nahi gaya to vo jyada frustrate ho jata hai , paise walo k pass to aour bhi options hote hai ……………………

  11. Very surprised to hear there is a corruption in interview process.. I used to friends if u wanna get govt job without bribe ur first prefernce should be Banking sector. I think i was wrong. Any way it was a good move by the govt to abolish the interview for cletks. If a person can score cut off marks in exams definitely he is suited for job.Scoring marks in ibps cant be a it could be done with lot of harfwork and, respect their effort and give them a job for their Marks..

  12. What about the candidates who wrote IBPS clerk 2015 exam in jan 2 and 3. Is there an interview for them?

  13. It is a WRONG and BAD step to remove interview in the selection process. A clerk is probably a front office executive who has to communicate with public- So the candidates must be tested their communication skills and their attitude. The candidate has to be assessed how much real desire he has to work in the field. There are several elements to to look into a candidate before giving a job whether a CEO or PO or CLERK or an ATTENDER.. 10 min of interview for 35 years of service is no where a problem. In order to protect transparency, the Best way is to make the Interview as just in a qualifying nature and removing marks for that.. So that the unfit candidates will be eliminated and the rest are selected as per merit .. 85% , 90%, is of no use.. here scenarios are not alike, a graduate with 60% is more suitable than the earlier in this field..

In my point of view this is not the right decision taken by the finance minister that how could one judge one will be the right person for the job without interviewing…and am damn sure that ibps will definitely conduct an interview this time for clerical jobs as the clerical notification is released before december 2015….

  15. Correct. Now the main point is that the cut offs might go high to select candidates for the required banks. But the draw back is selecting a candidate based upon his/her marks isnt going to help banks , rather candidates with good score and gud personality and reasoning ability to state his answer is important either.

  18. I think the interview process should be changed to thought view process be it online or offline to read the psychology of the candidate and the level of exam should be of PO level.

I think if they want to AVOID CORRUPTION,they should form COMMITTEES who takes a strict charge on finding the corrupt officials.INSTEAD of DELETING the SITUATION of corruption they should DELETE the CORRUPTION…As the people who are corrupt in their minds will find another way of doing it….And yes INTERVIEWS should be a part of selection as it checks the COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND CONFIDENCE LEVEL of an employee which is a REQUIREMENT for him to deal with the customers and even other staff of the organization.

  20. It’s not gud news that interview is abolished for banking secter. interview is a gud system for check the attitude, body language, family & educational background,manner etc. Is the most important for banking interview ratio should be decreased I.e. 90:10.

In my opinion conducting interview is very good for those who reavy interested candidate or who become a perfect banker and for those who see banking jobs as there fassion in thier career but one thing ill tell clearly some candidates who passed JAIIB/CAIIB without getting into the banking sector they are struggling harder to get jobs bank so the interview panel can identify thm other wise its its of no use sir….

  23. in my opinion there is no harm in abolishing the interview system at clerical level as we see a number of cases of favoritism during interview procedure, so its a good step BUT YES….difficulty level of entrance exams should be increased to a certain level…..

  24. In my opinion,abolishing interviews for clerical posts in all departments (govt.& psu) certainly ends corruption at the time of interviews. But as regards banks are concerned, interviews are necessary to judge the candidate’s attitude, communication skills(oral), whether the candidate is honest or liar, & family backgrounds & to see the candidate’s educational qualification consistency. Candidate’s good consistency in educational records should be given preference. Overall honest & trustworthy candidates without any criminal records is needed in bank appointments. So, I SAY INTERVIEWS FOR BANKS IS NECESSARY. BUT INTERVIEW MARKS SHOULD BE CONVERTED FOR 10 INSTEAD OF 20. THAT IS MAIN EXAM&INTERVIEW RATIO SHOULD BE 90:10. CERTAINLY MERITORIOUS CANDIDATES WILL GET APPOINTMENTS.
