IBPS PO Exam Analysis

The Prelim Exam consisted of 3 sections which were spread over English Language, Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Aptitude.  The duration of the exam was one hour which carried 100 marks.

IBPS PO Exam Analysis 2016 – October 23rd

  • LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY – MODERATE
  • DOABLE QUESTIONS- ALL
  • TIME LAG – YES (Candidates who manage their time well will have an overall advantage. The time saved in Quantitative Aptitude section can be used for solving RC passage in the English section)
  • SURPRISES – The English section was slightly more challenging than from the exam held on Oct 22nd and Oct 16th.

Quantitative Aptitude

Level : Easy

Type of Questions 

  • Quadratic Equations – 5
  • Series – 5
  • DI – 10
  • Approximation – 5
  • Numeric Ability (Various Topics) – 10

The Numeric ability was of moderate level. The rest of the questions were easy this year.

English Language 

Level : Difficult

Type of Questions 

  • Reading Comprehension – 8
  • Cloze Passage – 7
  • Para Jumbles – 5
  • Errors – 10

Overall , the English section was complex this year. The RC passages were challenging testing the grip of the student on vocabulary and basic understanding of the English language.

Reasoning Ability

Level – Moderate

Type of Questions 

  • Inequalities – 5
  • Syllogism – 5
  • Sitting Arrangement – 10
  • Puzzles – 10
  • Miscellaneous Topics – 5

Reasoning Ability was moderate this year. No coding decoding questions were asked. Puzzles were easy to attempt.

  • Quantitative Aptitude –  10-12

Seeing this year’s paper, speed, accuracy and planning was expected out of candidates to perform well in the exam. Also, a grip over English section was a must.

  1. hi akriti this is arun i have attempted 53 reasoning -13 100% accuracy english 18 100% accuracy and quant 22 100 % accuracy do i have any chance for ibps po mains iam sure about the accuracy in the entire paper

  4. mam i have done 53 questions reasoning 25 maths 10 english 18 i am sure in maths and reasoning what ever i have done is right but in english i will be getting 7 or 8 marks..is there any chance for my selection

    • Your overall performance is surely good Deepankar. If you score well in English, you’re surely in. Otherwise it’l be a close call. The english section was complex this year.We can just hope that the cutoff is less.

    General category….what are my chances ?should i prepare for mains or not?

    • Nitin I insist you start your preparation for Mains. A lot of students waste their precious time waiting for the result. That is not recommended.

      As far as your attempt goes, i feel you should be in but it all depends on the final cutoff decided by IBPS. Either way start preparing for Mains.

  9. sir i have attempted 49 out of 100 in prelims on 22nd october and my accuracy level is 85% …..and i am sc category…will i clear prelims??

  10. Quant was easy especially DI Nd number series l. Quadratic equations Nd approximations were easy, too.
    Reasoning was the easiest.
    English as usual moderate to tough in my case it was tough hi tough???? but parajumbles Nd error spotting are my power so I did it Nd it went well……

    18 QUANTITATIVE APTITUDE WITH 100% ACCURACY

    14 REASONING

    WITH 98% ACCURACY
    AND 18 ENGLISH WITH 80% ACCURACY
    What are my chances ?
