1.      A World Thalassaemia Day (WTD) is observed every year on May 8 to spread awareness about this deadly disease and the importance of blood donation and how it helps the millions of people suffering from Thalassemia worldwide. The 2017 theme ‘Together for Humanity’ highlights the need for unity and the efforts that are required to fight this fatal disease.
2.      C Banking on the Government’s drive to promote a cash-less economy, cashback portal Cashkaro.com has tied up with YES Bank to launch card-linked offers as part of its loyalty programme for both offline and online shoppers.The offer will be currently available on all YES BANK debit cards, and will be extended to all other payment products of YES Bank in the near future, Cashkaro said in a statement.
3.      C Ahmedabad to host ever ‘the biggest International Yoga Day event’ on the 21st of June this year. In this event at least 5 lakh participants will perform Yoga. Notably, Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev on Wednesday while addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad announced that Ahmedabad will host the biggest International Yoga Day event this year.
4.      A Jhulan Nishit Goswami, Indian women’s team fast bowler, has become the highest wicket-taker in the history of women ODI cricket and broke the record of the Australia Cathryn Fitzpatrick of 180 wickets from 109 matches. She dismissed South Africa’s Raisibe Ntozakhe in an ongoing ODI to claim her 181st victim in the 50-over format in Potchefstroom, South Africa. Jhulan’s feat has been achieved in her 153rd match. Jhulan was also adjudged ICC’s ‘Women Cricketer of the Year’ in 2007. Jhulan Goswami also has 40 wickets in 10 Tests and 50 wickets in 60 Twenty20 Internationals.
5.      B The Mudumalai National Park (MNP) is located about 150 kilometres north-west of Coimbatore city in Tamil Nadu. The protected area is home to several endangered and vulnerable species including Indian elephant, Bengal tiger, gaur and Indian leopard. There are at least 266 species of birds in the sanctuary, including critically endangered Indian white-rumped vulture and long-billed vulture.
6.      E China has set up a 160-square-meter (1,720-square-foot)  laboratory — dubbed as “Yuegong-1”, or “Lunar Palace” for simulating a lunar-like environment. 12.  B India has protested the participation of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at ‘Khalsa Day’ in Toronto that saw felicitation of Sikh separatist elements and featured Khalistani flags and posters of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. Mr. Trudeau has become the first Canadian PM to attend the ‘Khalsa Day’ event in a decade since Paul Martin in 2005. The Khalsa Day event was organised to mark the Sikh new year.
