Government sacks 129 Non-Performing Officers in Public Interest

  • Government has forced 129 government officers to retire for non-performance in the past few months
  • Service review on government employees are usually conducted after 15 years and again after 25 years of completion of qualifying service.

 

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus Elected as Director General of WHO

  • Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has been elected as the new Director-General of the World Health Organisation.
  • The head of the organization is the Director-General (DG), appointed by the World Health Assembly.

 

Second Prototype of Light Utility Helicopter Completes Maiden Flight

  • The second prototype of the Light Utility Helicopter, LUH PT2, has successfully completed its first flight by flying smoothly for 22 minutes in Bengaluru.
  • The second prototype is the improved version of the PT1, which undertook its first flight on September 6, 2016 and later in the Aero India 2017 show in February.

 

Famous British Actor, Roger Moore Passes Away

  • British actor Roger Moore, who played the much famed secret agent James Bond, has passed away at the age of 89.
  • Roger Moore has acted as James Bond in seven films for 12 years between 1973 and 1985. His famous films include Live and Let Die and A View to a Kill. Moore was also known for playing Simon Templar in TV series The Saint between 1962 and 1969.

 

Airlander 10: World’s Largest Aircraft Completes Test Flight

  • Airlander 10, the world’s largest aircraft has successfully completed a test flight by flying for a total of 180 minutes in Cardington, UK.
  • During the test flight, the aircraft’s’ handling and improved landing technology were tested thus bringing it a step closer to commercial use.
