Airport Operations Syllabus:

The Professional Knowledge Section will have the following topics:

ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS

Linear Algebra: Matrix algebra, Systems of linear equations, Eigen values and Eigen vectors

Calculus: Functions of single variable, Limit, continuity and differentiability, Mean value theorems, Evaluation of definite and improper integrals, Partial derivatives, Total derivative, Maxima and minima, Gradient, Divergence and Curl, Vector identities, Directional derivatives, Line, Surface and Volume integrals, Stokes, Gauss and Green’s theorems.

Differential equations: First order equations (linear and nonlinear), Higher order linear differential equations with constant coefficients, Cauchy’s and Euler’s equations, Initial and boundary value problems, Laplace transforms, Solutions of one dimensional heat and wave equations and Laplace equation.

Complex variables: Analytic functions, Cauchy’s integral theorem, Taylor and Laurent series.

Probability and Statistics: Definitions of probability and sampling theorems, Conditionalprobability, Mean, median, mode and standard deviation, Random variables, Poisson, Normaland Binomial distributions.

Numerical Methods: Numerical solutions of linear and non-linear algebraic equations, Integration by trapezoidal and Simpson’s rule, single and multistep methods for differential equations.

ENGINEERING PHYSICS

Relativistic Mechanics:

Inertial & non-inertial frames, Michelson- Morley experiment, Einsteins postulates. Lorentz transformation equations. Length contraction & Time dilation, Addition of velocities; Variation of mass with velocity Mass energy equivalence.

Optics:

Interference: Interference of light, Biprism experiment, displacement of fringes, Interference in thin films-wedge shaped film, Newton’s rings,Diffraction, Polarization- Phenomena of double refraction, Nicol prism, Production and analysis of plane, circular and elliptical polarized light, Fresnel’s theory of optical activity, Polarimeters ,Fundamental ideas about optical fiber, Types of fibers, Acceptance angle and cone, Numerical aperture, Basic Principle of Holography, Construction and reconstruction of Image on hologram

Wave Mechanics and X-ray Diffraction

Wave- particle duality, de-Broglie matter waves, Phase and Group velocities, Davisson-Germer experiment,Heisenberg uncertainty principle and its applications, Wave function and its significance, Schrodinger’s wave equation – particle in one dimensional box.Diffraction of X-rays by crystal planes, Bragg’s spectrometer, Compton’s effect.

Electromagnetics

Displacement Current, Maxwell’s Equations ( Integral and Differential Forms). Equation of continuity, EM-Wave equation and its propagation characteristics in free space and in conducting media, Poynting theorem.

Superconductivity and Science and Technology of Nanomaterials:

Temperature dependence of resistivity in superconducting materials, Effect of magnetic field (Meissner effect ),Super-conductors, Introduction to Nano materials- Basic principle of nano science and technology, creation and use of buckyballs.
